Dust Control/PM10
The brown cloud that hangs over the Phoenix Metropolitan Area consists primarily of dust particulate matter (PM10). The good news is that there are many easy things that you can do to help. Some of these include:
  • Reduce the number of trips you take in your car - such as carpooling to work.
  • Do not drive excessively on dirt roads or dirt shoulders.
  • Drive slowly on unpaved roads / shoulders.
  • Manage the use of leaf blowers, ATVs and other equipment that raise a lot of dust.
  • Maintain loose dirt areas within your property with vegetation, rock or water to encrust the surface.
  • Reduce fireplace and woodstove use, and do not use your wood-burning fireplace or stove on no-burn days. Do not burn leaves, trash or other materials.
  • Support laws, rules, and efforts to make our air healthier.
To find out more about the region's air pollution, visit Maricopa County Air Quality Department's "Clean Air Make More" website or the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality's "Preventing Air Pollution" website. If you would like more information on how PM10 effects the City of Apache Junction, call Public Works at (480) 982-1055 and ask to talk with our City's PM10 representative.
