The city of Apache Junction’s General Plan, which was overwhelmingly supported by voters, has been cited among the best in Arizona by the statewide planning association.
The Arizona chapter of the American Planning Association has given an honorable mention to the city’s entry, “Apache Junction General Plan 2020-2050: “Legendary Landscapes & Lifestyles,” in its “Comprehensive Plan” category.
The General Plan, which maps out the city’s goals and policies over the next 10 to 30 years of growth in various areas, was approved by more than 73 percent of the electorate in August 2020.
The plan was done completely in-house, at a large savings, with all departments in the city contributing.
The Arizona Planning Association announced its awards at a virtual ceremony on Thursday night. In announcing the awards, the association noted its criteria in honoring the best plans were based on innovation, transferability, quality, comprehensiveness, public outreach, role of planner and the effectiveness of the project.
