1. Where is Apache Junction Animal Control located and what are your hours of operation?

We are located at 725 E. Baseline Ave, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. (East of Idaho Road and West of Tomahawk Road on the South side of Baseline). Our office is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am to 3:00pm. The kennel is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am to 3:00pm. We are closed Sundays and Mondays.

2. How can we contact Apache Junction Animal Control?

You can call our office during business hours 9:00am to 3:00pm at (480) 983-4405. After hours you can call the Police Department at (480) 982-8260. 

3. Where can I go for vaccinations and licenses?

Animal Control does not provide rabies vaccinations at our facility.  There are several options in Apache Junction for getting your dog vaccinated:

Apache Junction Animal Control provides licensing at the shelter for city residents, any time during business hours. Please bring your ID, and a current rabies vaccination certificate for your dog.

If you reside in Maricopa County, please call 602-506-7387. If you reside in Pinal County outside our city limits, please call Pinal County Animal Care and Control at 888-431-1311. 

4. How do I schedule a spay or neuter appointment for my pet?

The shelter does not offer spay or neuter services for the public.  However, there are many options available in Apache Junction or in the nearby east valley for low cost spay and neuter.

5. Do you provide Veterinary Services?

Animal Control does not have an on-site veterinarian and cannot give advice of any medical treatment. 

6. What do I do if I have lost or found a pet?

If you have lost a pet, please call your microchip company and report your dog or cat as missing.  Visit 24PetConnect.com and register your missing pet; you can also view found animals on this website. Be sure to visit the shelter often, to see if your animal has come in as a stray. Post your missing pet on local social media pages such as Nextdoor or Facebook. 

If you have found a pet, please bring it into a shelter or veterinarian to be scanned for a microchip.  Remember to check local community social media pages and post if you have found a pet.

7. What should I do if I am concerned about the welfare of an animal?

All dogs must have adequate shade and shelter available and water 24 hours a day. If you are concerned or would like to report animal abuse, neglect, abandoned or are just concerned about an animal, please call the Police Department at this number (480) 982-8260.

Horses are considered livestock and are not required to have shade, however, if you feel the horse is in distress, please contact the Arizona Livestock at (602) 542-0872.

8. Where can we drop off an animal?

We accept animals from within the Apache Junction incorporated city limits only.  AJAC is a municipal shelter, and we accept dogs and cats for surrender. However, our facility is run with a "capacity for care" protocol meaning we may have to limit the number of surrendered animals per day when the shelter is at capacity.

If an owner lives in a jurisdiction that has its own animal control agency, they must surrender the pet to that shelter.  We will not accept an animal from outside our jurisdiction.

9. Do you perform euthanasia?

Currently we provide this service to the public by appointment only. This service is for sick or injured animals only. Please call the shelter at 480-983-4405 to schedule an appointment.

10. Do you pick up cats?

Cats are considered free roaming animals in the state of Arizona.  Animal Control does not pick up cats.  Please click on the Community Cat Resources tab for more information on feral and community cats.

11. Who can I contact after hours?

For animal emergencies such as animals on the loose, abuse, neglect, in danger or any other concern, after hours you can contact the police department at (480) 982-8260 but if a life threatening situation exists please call 9-1-1 immediately.
